Australian
Institute for the Achievement of Human Potential (AIAHP)
Programme
Firstly
I would like to recommend that nobody try any of the exercises
below at home on their child without the advice of AIAHP
first.
The
programme is prescribed specifically for Billee and her areas of
delays.
Billee
started with AIAHP in September 2008 and since then has had one re
assessment in April 2009.
We were
very impressed with the improvements we saw in Billee from the
initial assessment to the latest in many areas but remember every
child is different and what may work for one may not work for
another.
We do
the programme below along with ABR, cranial sacral therapy, a small
amount of standard physio and all the love in the world! Billee
also gets a huge amount of stimulation from her 2 older
sisters.
1.
For balance and to help wake Billee’s brain up we start by swinging
her backwards and forwards, side to side and around and around on
her swing we have hanging up in our lounge room.
2.
We then mask Billee for 60 seconds. This is to increase the
oxygen to Billee’s brain and to expand her lungs. Whilst doing this
we show her some very large picture cards at speed naming the
objects as we go. This is part of the intellectual programme and we
will be replacing these with words in the future.
3.
We have a massager which we then use for tactile stimulation all
over her body.
4.
We do lots of tracking and other visual stimulation exercises with
light up objects to help improve Billee’s vision.
5.
Billee sleeps on a queen size mattress in her bedroom where we
practice rolling over with her.
6.
We do hip rolls to help with Billee’s movement.
7.
My Dad has made a fantastic ramp, which looks like a slide. We try
to encourage Billee to crawl down this by helping her and moving
her arms and legs.
8.
We roll Billee over a peanut ball which helps her to bear weight on
her knees and hands. This is also good for helping with her head
control and strengthening her neck.
9.
We have another exercise for balance and awareness where we lay
Billee in a blanket and two of us swing her back and
forth.
10.
Billee spends a lot of time on the floor giving her the opportunity
and freedom to move if and when she wants to.
We do
the above programme as many times as possible during the day with
some additional exercises too. We also have a nutritional
programme, extra visual stimulation in the form of lights in
Billee’s room and soon Glenn will be taking her swimming in a hydro
pool.
Billee
works very hard but sometimes it all just gets a little too much
for her!!
